    Universal Language-Based Sessions

We offer fun and engaging sessions that support early speech and language development for all families:

    • Storytime – Encouraging listening, imagination, and vocabulary

These sessions are open to everyone and provide a relaxed space for children to develop communication skills through play and interaction.

    Early Communication Group (ECG)

Targeted Support for Children Aged 2+

The Early Communication Group is a referral-based programme designed to support children with emerging speech and language needs.

    • Children should be aged 2 years or older to be referred
    • Referrals are typically identified during the 2-year developmental check
    • Referrals can be made by professionals or, in some cases, by parents/carers
    • Sessions focus on building key communication skills through structured play and activities
    • Delivered by experienced staff in a supportive group setting

    Liverpool Children’s Centre Speech Pathway

A Step-by-Step Approach to Speech and Language Support

This pathway ensures children receive the right support before being referred to Liverpool Speech and Language Therapy services.

    How It Works:

    1. Referral
      • Usually identified during the 2-year check
      • Made by a professional or, in some cases, self-referral by a parent/carer
    2. Get to Know You Session
      • An allocated staff member meets with the family to understand the child’s needs
    3. Support Options
      • Based on the assessment, children may be offered:
        • Early Communication Group (ECG)
        • One-to-One Sessions
    4. Skill Development Period
      • After ECG, families are encouraged to use the skills learned over an 8-week period at home
    5. Further Referrals
      • If additional support is needed, further referrals can be made

    ⚠️ Important:
Liverpool Speech and Language Therapy will not accept referrals unless the above steps have been completed. This ensures children benefit from early intervention and appropriate support.
